Why Solomons?

A dear friend asked me today why I was interested in blogging about Solomons Island.  While it seems plain to me, I'm not sure my answer really covered it all.

There are a lot of great photo ops to be had on Solomons like people, pets, birds, and sunsets, but I'd rave about it without taking time for the photos.  It, for me, is simply a relaxing place.  I don't feel rushed there, well most of the time anyway.  The exception really only to get to Solomons United Methodist Church on time.

Nearly everyone is at a slow pace as well.  It's so calming just seeing folk taking in the view, sitting on a bench and talking or in the gazebo catching some needed shade.

Here's a couple sunset photos to tell part of the story.

The sun landing on the bridge. Well not really, but it looks that way.

Hangin' Around

This pic is a week or so old, and while it's not the best shot, it captures a moment that was interesting. There is a nice gazebo in the middle of the River Walk at Solomons.  I have taken photos of the beams for their 'lines' in the past, but this time it was Darvis that caught my attention.  He's a big guy, I'm guessing over 6' 3", and he jumped up and did a few pull-ups to get a mini-workout in.

Always a Dog Show

Today, much like many others at Solomons brings dog lovers together.  The two Australians met the other dog today bringing owners together.  The familiar question "Is he friendly?", brought an immediate reply of "Extremely friendly."

Spidey

Families with small children nearly always have good time while on the river walk.  But even a young super hero, in this case "Spidey" needs to hold his Dad's hand once in a while.  I'd have to say too, that Dad has a great Coastal Wardrobe going on.

Taking a Chance

So tonight officially kicked off my Solomons Seen blog.  I've been thinking about this for a while now. Given a few kind friends encouraged my photography, and the affinity I have for Solomons Island I thought I'd try to capture the feel of the Island in this blog.

This evening, like many, there was a couple finishing an ice cream cone and had a beautiful dog with them.  He was a combination Husky/Australian Shepherd and just gorgeous.  Here's a few photos.

Just look at those eyes.

Next time I need a shot of the whole family together, and maybe even catch the last bite of the cone going to the canine.

Hope you guys find the blog now that's it "up" and running.

More to come, I'll populate with some of the images from previous trips to one of my favorite places in SOMD.

Cheers,

Brian
